On November 1st, Dutch artist Liza Dries and German band DUNYA began a residency together in Hamburg. After initially being connected through Go! and having a Zoom call to discuss expectations, Liza Dries traveled from Berlin to Hamburg to join the band in their rehearsal space.
The day began with a discussion on how they would achieve their goal in the 48 hours they had together. They started with the first song, in which Liza joined the writing process and production, adding style and structure to the track. By the end of the first day, the structure was complete, and Liza continued working on production. “It was so amazing to hear her contribution to the song,” the band later said. “As a vocalist, I have never experienced someone working so well on my vocals.”
The second day of the residency consisted of Liza further developing the track while the band continued rehearsing and adding new elements. By the end of the residency, the song was nearly complete, and the experience had been a beautiful exchange, blending knowledge of analog and digital music production through teamwork. In Dunya’s words: “It has been an experience that went beyond just the final product. It was an exchange between two young female musicians in today’s world—a conversation about social media and the digital landscape, about working solo and in a team. We are very grateful for this opportunity.”
